The most challenging task of the competition is connecting the historical urban center and the Town Hall that has been detached during recent years. Thus our proposal divides the new residential block in two.
In the higher unit we designed larger, more spacious apartments with views over the river. The lower building is organised around an atrium with smaller apartments that has a connection to the roof garden, that helps the atrium to become the common living room for the apartments. On the ground floor the units enclose flexible commercial areas for retail and restaurants. The higher unit is opening with an arcade towards the new market square. The market is covered with a mobile shading system, a light structure that complements the strict residential blocks. The buildings use simple materials - the off-white grid of the structure is softened by the wooden windows and vegetation running between the columns. The simple geometry is loosened by the loggias and shading system that provides an ever changing image for the facade.
